7 Tips to Help You Stay Motivated at Work During the Summer

Let’s face it; some of the most difficult times to stay motivated at work are right after lunch, around the holidays and when the weather warms up. If you’re starting to get cabin fever at work, try these tips that can help you regain your focus.

1. Plan Your Week

If you have ever gone to the grocery store without a list, and arrived at home just to realize you forgot something, you understand the benefits of writing things down. It’s easy to get off track if we aren’t constantly reminded of what needs to be done. Friday afternoons or Monday mornings are great times to think about what needs to be accomplished in the week ahead.

Once you have thought about what needs to be on your to-do list, you can create a schedule for yourself if that will help you stay on track. Whatever your style may be, creating a list of what needs to be completed each week can help you determine if you’re on schedule or if you’re truly getting distracted longing for the lazy days of summer.

2. Recharge During Your Weekend

Allow yourself to unplug and relax on the weekends to keep yourself motivated during the week. If you set aside this time as your true break from work each week you should be focused during your work-week.

3. Eat Lunch Outside

Just because you can’t spend all day in the sun, doesn’t mean you have to miss out completely. Change up your lunch routine and find a restaurant near your office that has outdoor seating. Don’t have time to leave the office? Most businesses have some form of outdoor seating where you can pack your own lunch and still enjoy the change of scenery.

If your office doesn’t have outdoor seating, find a park nearby or bring a blanket for a picnic. During the summer, it can be difficult to stay inside all day, but allowing yourself to eat lunch outside will give you something to look forward to.

4. Plan a Vacation

Sometimes the best motivation is something to look forward to. Plan a vacation for the summer time; even if it is a short weekend get away. Taking time to escape reality and get out of town can be a nice way to unwind.

For some people time-off is best spent at home. A staycation can be a great way to relax without the stress of traveling and planning. Once you arrive home or back in the office there is always a sense of comfort that comes with returning to the status quo, which will help you be productive.

5. Organize a Company or Department Gathering

Whether you work at a large corporation or a small business, organizing a gathering of coworkers can be a great way to feel refreshed and motivated. If you are part of a large company or you aren’t the “planner” type you can put together a low-key event, such as a group lunch.

More active events can also be a positive way to bond with your co-workers and enhance productivity during the summer time. 5Ks, bowling, or city sports leagues are physical activities that can boost your mood, helping you to feel happy and relaxed.
